WHO WE SERVE

The Mayans of Guatemala are the only indigenous culture that constitutes a majority of the population in a Central American republic, making up an estimated 51 per cent of the nation.  A thousand years ago their civilization flourished, but when Spanish explorers conquered the region they became slaves in their own homeland.  Today most Mayans live in the western highlands as poor subsistence farmers.

San Lucas Tolimán is located in south-central Guatemala on the shores of Lake Atitlán. It is a town of approximately 20,000 people, with another 20,000 in twenty-two surrounding villages.

The Mayans living in and around San Lucas Tolimán  are the people that the House of Healing ministry wants to reach in a way that points them to Jesus Christ, the Great Physician.

Come and help build a one-room, cinder block home for a single mother and her children. Come construct a well-ventilated, energy-efficient stove that provides relief from respiratory illnesses and prevents burns that are all too common.  Come and spend time with children who will love you for simply being there.  Come and gain a new understanding of how most of the world lives, and be amazed at how you go home with new insight and gratitude.
