Beside some early rains (rainy season usually starts in May), April was filled with surprises here at The House.
Julie – Discovery intern
Julie left The House at the last of March to go back to school. Everyone missed her so much. Then she wrote an email that said she wanted to come back in September for 3 months and could do a course via internet. So she will be here when First Presbyterian of Brighton, MI comes with a mighty team of 23! She can also continue working with Alex whom you read about in February.
Parker – Discovery intern
Parker, a Discovery Intern from earlier this year, will be coming back for 2-3 months as well. He is fluent in Spanish and a good interpreter but, most importantly, he has the heart of an advocate to help patients get the treatment and care they need. He will take Maria and her mom to another area of Guatemala to get help. You heard about Maria in March. The story continues.
The team from Faith Community
Then the team from Faith Community in Novi, MI, arrived. It was a small team but, like David, the Holy Spirit used them in a mighty way. They were here in January to lay the ground work, and this time around installed a water filtration system at a church that has helped us here in San Lucas Tolimán .
Two members of the team taught church folks how the system works along with how to clean and to maintain it. Then two others did an amazing job of teaching about the importance of clean water and hygiene. Bible stories and drama were used to teach each concept. Church members learned the lessons in the morning and in turn taught kids and parents in the afternoon. And in the early evening, team member Mark taught the business part of the project: how to keep track of the cleanliness, hours spent, bottles sold and donated, along with income and expenses.
We worked with two Guatemalans from Living Waters for the World and they too were blessings to the project as they directed us in each phase of this 3 year commitment to the water filtration system.
Another surprise blessing
Some of the men from the drug and alcohol rehab center worked with us and one, Ivon, became the interpreter and has volunteered to help with continued teaching at the church.
One last surprise…
The water was tested by San Carlos University and surpassed the standards set by the Guatemalan government. We even surpassed the quality of water the country-wide commercial company sells. So we were all blessed hearing this surprising news.

And we ended the month with the first thunderstorm of the rainy season.
Another surprise.
Here’s how you can partner with us during the month of May:
- Pray for Julie, Parker and their work here and in their lives
- Pray for little Maria
- Pray for the water filtration project and for another one to happen soon
- Pray for Ivon as he leaves the drug and alcohol rehab center and gets and apartment and continues to work at the local church.
THANK YOU
Thank you for coming alongside us here at The House, in the name of the Great Physician!
We’re changing the world, one life at a time.
