The first week of May the new House of Healing (HoH) clinic opened to the public here in San Lucas Toliman. Celena, the nurse in charge, and our Canadian volunteer nurse, Virginia, work together to help people with medical needs. For the time being the clinic is open on market days (Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays) so that people from the nearby San Antonio area can have easy access to the clinic as there is public transportation those days.
The clinic has a new exam table hand made by our carpenter and new shelving, paint and a totally rebuilt cabinet.
So far we have seen 90 patients, treating most of them on the spot and making a few referrals to either a doctor or a hospital.
The director of health for this area has visited us and is very encouraging. He offered to work with us to help those with medical needs. The parochial hospital also has been very supportive and donated a hospital bed and IV stand so we can house a patient overnight when needed.
It has been such a blessing to work with Celena and watch her grow as she learns new ways to help patients. She is also studying to be a professional nurse with the support of Dr. Eric who is encouraging her to get her license.
Thank you for your prayers for this new endeavor of the HoH. You are so appreciated.
