Last week we posted a message from missionary Teri about two young women from our community here in Brighton, Michigan, who are serving at the House of Healing for three months. What follows is a first person report from Emma and Maddie:

Emma and Maddie

Where do I even begin? There are so many different things that I want to write about right now, but with almost 2 months of experiences already under my belt I think it would be a bit much all at once. So for right now I’m going to keep this post short and just say that God is SO good!

Maddie and I have been so blessed, that He would bring us here at this exact time in our lives, at this exact stage in the work being done down here because through it all He has provided the time and opportunity for us to draw even nearer to Him! God truly desires a relationship with each and every one of His children and He cares so much! His love is all-encompassing, never-failing, never-ending, and it is in His love that we are all united. How amazing is that?!

Yes, God is working in physical ways down here too in all the work that is being done, like the building of houses and stoves, and the renovations to the House of Healing, and in the development of the clinic. But all of these things are for the greater purpose of building relationships with one another in Christ and opening up doors to share His good word. Being able to live down here has made the importance of fellowship that much more clear to me, as we all learn from each other and grow as one body.

The very first time we went to our church down here the band started playing “How Great Thou Art” (in Spanish of course), and suddenly all of our differences fell away. It didn’t matter that we spoke different languages, had different customs, and came from different backgrounds. We are all children of the same God, and that is so encouraging! He will be with you wherever you go, and He has such tremendous love for you!

Now that we’ve been here a while, we’ve met so many amazing people and made so many incredible friends- the girls from our dance group, the members of praise band we practice with, Kelly & Tina and The Women of Hope, Teri and Antonio, Teri’s workers, Berna and her family, Dona Cony and her aide Selena, our housekeeper Norma and her daughter Frida, our guardian Gregorio, Celena (who will be the nurse at the clinic), our wonderful friend Lucia who has come from Totonicapan to stay at House of Healing for some time, Veronica (who we have been delivering medicine to up in the mountains), all of the groups we’ve worked with, and the beautiful families we built homes for with the Texas group.

When I sit back and think about it, I know that all this hasn’t happened by chance. I am so indescribably thankful. God has placed some really amazing people into our lives and it’s so incredible to know that we can all help each other, contribute, and grow closer to Christ together! What a true blessing that God’s love can weave us together like that.

It makes me think to John 17:20-23: “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.”

Please continue to pray with us that God’s love would be known in this place, and that this community would be unified through it!
